- A summary of the business and what the plan sets out to do
- Your services or products, with your prices or suggested ones
- Who your customers are, and where to reach them
- How you stand apart from what customers do instead
- A marketing and sales plan you can start this week
- How the work gets done: equipment, schedule, tools and checks
- Startup costs and a monthly budget, with what they assume
- Your break-even: the sales a month that cover your costs
- Milestones for the first 90 days and the first year
- The risks, and what to do about each one
An example
What a plan looks like
Part of a plan for Apex Detail, an example mobile car detailing business in Dallas. The business is made up, and so are its figures.
Apex DetailBusiness plan
7Startup costs and monthly budget
Monthly budget
| Item | Notes | Estimate |
|---|---|---|
| Insurance | Liability and vehicle cover for mobile work | $120 |
| Phone, booking and software | Calls, online booking and invoices | $90 |
| Marketing | Local ads and printed cards | $300 |
| Van upkeep and loan | Payments and servicing | $450 |
| Total a month | $960 | |
8Pricing and break-even
Your full detail at $180 sits between a quick wash and a shop detail. Most jobs are full details, with some interiors and a few ceramic coatings, so an average job comes to about $170.
At these estimates, about 7 sales a month (roughly 2 sales a week) cover monthly costs of $960. Each sale after that adds about $140.
Questions
About the business plan generator
What is a business plan generator?
A tool that writes a business plan for you. With PressUp, you describe your business in a few sentences, and it writes a plan made for it: your offer, customers, marketing, costs, pricing, milestones and risks.
Is it free?
You can try it without an account: 3 plans a day. With an account, a plan uses 5 credits, and every new account starts with 20 credits.
Are the numbers right for my business?
They're estimates. PressUp suggests costs and prices that are sensible for your kind of business from what you told it, labels them as estimates and lists what they assume. It doesn't look up local prices or market data, so check each figure and get quotes before you rely on them.
Is this financial or legal advice?
No. The plan is a starting point written from what you told PressUp. For money, tax, licences and legal questions, talk to an accountant, your local licensing office or a lawyer. The plan ends with a list of what to check, and with whom.
Can I change the plan?
Download it for Word and change anything you like, or print it or save it as a PDF to share. You can also write a new plan with different answers.
Will it work for my kind of business?
It's made for small businesses of every kind, whether it's an idea, just starting or already running. The more you tell it, such as your prices, budget and goals, the more the plan fits your business.
