01Is it right for you?

A good fit if you like design, technology and solving clients' problems

Every business needs a website that looks good on a phone and brings in customers. As a web designer you plan, design and build those sites, and many clients pay you every month to keep them current.

You'll like it if

  • You enjoy both design and technology
  • You like learning new tools
  • You can explain things without jargon
  • You're patient with feedback and changes

Think twice if

  • You don't like screens all day
  • Client revisions frustrate you
  • You want work that never changes
  • You'd rather not chase content from clients
02What it costs

10Questions

Common questions

Do I need a license to be a web designer in Florida?

Usually not. You'll register your business and handle your taxes. Use only images, fonts and code you have the right to use, and put what you deliver in a written contract.

Do I need to know how to code?

Not always. Many designers build with website tools that need little code. Knowing basic HTML and CSS still helps you fix problems and do more.

Do AI and website builders mean fewer clients?

Many owners now make simple sites themselves. Designers who do well offer what owners can't easily do alone: planning, custom design, writing, care after launch and a person to call.

Should I charge by the hour or by the project?

Most clients prefer a set project price. Estimate your hours, multiply by your rate, and agree on what's included and what counts as extra.

Who pays for hosting and the domain?

Usually the client, in their own name, so they keep control of their site. You can set it up for them.
